Fort Collins “Image-Ination” Concert to Feature Locally Sourced Photochoreography Piece
In March 2016, the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra, led by Maestro Wes Kenney, will be pairing two of our evocative repertoire pieces with a new piece that Nicholas is creating for their “Legends & Legacies” season theme.
For their concert titled “Image-ination,” the symphony has programmed a newly commissioned piece about the culture, people and surroundings of Fort Collins. This community piece will be made entirely from images sourced by local residents and organizations in Fort Collins. The two music selections for the community piece are the first half of Richard Meyer’s A Fiddler’s Fancy and Calvin Custer’s Central Coach Special.
Alongside the new piece, we’ll be performing Pacifica and Reflections of the Spirit, two of our existing concert pieces set to Mahler’s Adagietto from Symphony No. 5 and Barber’s Adagio for Strings, respectively. Pacifica was photographed along the forests and coastline of the Pacific Northwest during the winter months. Reflections of the Spirit explores various sites of the ancient Anasazi culture of the Southwest.
Now in its 66th season, the Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra is the premiere professional orchestra in northern Colorado, with close ties to Colorado State University. 2016 will mark our second engagement with Maestro Kenny—the first was in March 2015 during our collaboration with the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he was the guest conductor.
